An island close to southern Japan has more cats than it does humans.
The feral felines have taken over abandoned houses, whilst a fishing village is overrun by cats with a ratio of 6:1
The cats were introduced to the island of Aoshima, in an attempt to deal with mice that plagued the mile long island. Now the cats dominate as they multiplied.
Amazingly this is not the only island in Japanese waters that is inundated with felines. There are in fact, a dozen of the so called “cat islands” in the area.
