Komodo attacks tourist

A Fifty-year-old man was attacked by a Komodo Dragon in Indonesia whilst taking photos of the animal.

The Dragon was eating at the time when the tourist decided to get a closer look and take photos, he was then seriously bitten on his leg.

According to the park ranger, the incident was the first of its kind in the five years he has worked there, and it happened away from the designated safety areas where the injured man was quickly put on a boat to the nearest hospital to be treated.

Komodo Dragons are the largest species of lizard, fossils have been found in Australia dating back 3.8-million-years ago, and now can be found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Gili Montang and Padar.

They are outstanding hunters with a venomous bite, they are known to ambush prey including birds, invertebrates and mammals.
