Over 300 illegal migrants from the African nation of Morocco, laid siege to Melilla boundary fences on May 9th.
The city is autonomous, belong to the Spanish but is situated in Morocco, and has been under Spanish rule since 1497.
It was stormed by hundreds of migrants, who had one goal in mind – get to Europe.
During the assault, three guards were hospitalised as migrants attacked them with projectiles.
Over 100 people broke through the barrier’s of the city’s defences. They were seen celebrating in the streets with the authoritiesmpowerless to remove them. Under EU law, they have the right to claim asylum, upon reaching Spanish soil.\
