A man has been shot dead by Belgian soldiers in Brussels Central Station.
He was shot after he set off a small explosion at the station.
No other injuries have so far been reported.
Minutes before he was shot, he was heard to shout “Allah Akbar” meaning God is great in Arabic.
He repeated the phrase before detonating a bomb, which was concealed in a suitcase. The explosion was not a significant one and no deaths occurred but it caused mass panic around the vicinity as people fled from the station.
Witnesses who saw the man said he had a device on him with wires protruding from it, suggesting it could have been a suicide bomb.
Police and soldiers assisted in evacuating the premises as businesses were instructed to pull down shutters.
