In a statement released by Governor Greg Abbott he announced that a total of 26 people have so far lost their lives when a gunman went on a shooting rampage at a Texas.
Church during yesterday’s Sunday service, warning that the death toll might yet rise further.
Abbott said that they are currently dealing with the state’s biggest mass shooting in history where many families lost fathers, mothers and children.
The tragedy is only made worse by the fact it took place in a church, a place where people had gathered to innocently worship before being killed.
It was reported that the gunman used an assault rifle and was wearing ballistic armour according to police.
They said that the perpetrator of the heinous act is believed to be in his early 20’s.
According to Freeman Martin, of the Texas Department of Public safety the shooter was found dead at the scene with a “Ruger AR assault-type rifle.”
The has been no official announcement regarding the shooters identity, however multiple news organisations claim the man to be Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, stating that he had recently been dishonourably discharged from the US Airforce.
