Most people climb Mount Everest once in their life time but a 37-year-old Indian woman has just completed the task, twice in one week, which could well be a record for the fastest double ascent of the world’s highest mountain.
Mother of two, Anshu Jamsenpa, reached the summit on 16 and 21 May, in a week that saw three people killed as they tried to scale Everest. An Australian, Slovakian, and an American were killed in separate incidents and a fourth climber is still missing in a tragic week.
It’s the second time Anshu has completed an Everest double ascent. Her previous feat was in 2011, but those ascents came 10 days apart.
She has scaled the mountain in 2013 and made another attempt in 2014 but was thwarted by an avalanche and an earthquake prevented her undertaking a in 2015.
