An Australian man is believed to have committed suicide in the early hours of Monday morning on December 11 after falling from the balcony of a Pattaya hotel room.

Pol Capt Chann Kesornbua, deputy inspector of the Pattaya police force said that officers at the station were alerted to the situation which took place at the R-Con Blue Ocean Hotel in Soi Buakhao at around 3am.

When officers arrived they discovered the body of 63-year-old Australian man James Philip Cook next to the hotels swimming pool, medical personnel were called but Mr Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers interviewed staff at the hotel who said Mr Cook had been living in room 713 on the seventh floor of the hotel for some time and often entertained guests, however staff noted that they had not seen Mr Cook for several days.

The body was sent for autopsy at the Police hospital in Bangkok and currently police can only speculate as to the reason behind the man’s suicide as no evidence of foul play was found.
