An Australian national who is a member of the Pattaya Hells Angels motorcycle club and his Thai wife were both arrested and charged with smuggling crystal meth into Thailand.
officers have since frozen assets in the region of 20 million baht as the investigation continues.
The couple Luke Cook, 34, and Kanyarat Wechapitak, 40, were both arrested when they arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Saturday night having returned from Australia, according to the commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Pol Lt Gen Sommai Kongwisaisuk.
Both were taken into custody after arrest warrants were issued by Rayong provincial court for allegedly smuggling methamphetamines (Ice.)
Pol Lt Gen Sommai announced on Monday that the couple allegedly purchased 500 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine from Chinese smugglers in international waters back on June 22, 2015.
Upon returning to the Ocean Marina in Chon Buri there boat was spotted by a patrol boat so the couple ditched their cargo overboard and managed to escape, police later found 50.45kg of methamphetamine washed ashore.
Following their arrests on Sunday investigating officers searched nine locations across Pattaya and also Bangkok.
Police have currently frozen 20 million baht’s worth of assets including high end cars and bikes and condominiums and houses as the investigation continues.
Pol Lt Gen Sommai also stated that Mr Cook is a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle club in Pattaya and investigators are now looking to see if he has any connection to the murder of a fellow Hells Angels member that police believe was killed due to an illegal drugs conflict.
