Stephen Carpenter, a 49 years old Australian tourist, was arrested by the Thai Police last day for organizing an orgy on a boat. The police arrested Carpenter around 2:00 AM in the night from a house in Saraburi province. According to police Carpenter was hiding from an arrest warrant issued on Saturday.
Prostitution is illegal in Thailand. But Carpenter did not seem to have considered the fact. Like a ‘shout-out’, he had posted a Craiglist advertisement on Dec 6 promoting his ‘wild boat orgy’ service. Police ran a sting operation following the classified to nab Carpenter.
To get hold of Carpenter, police responded to the ad using Line messaging app and requested to arrange the service on June 14. Carpenter in response demanded a 50 per cent payment in advance which amounts up to THB 38,000. Following this police issued the warrant against Carpenter on Saturday.
According to police, Carpenter also has been involved in smuggling cocaine in golf clubs and bags to Thailand from Australia. To add a topping to the list of charges, Carpenter has been overstaying on his visa already.
With the charges piling up against him, Carpenter has refused to cooperate in the investigations. However, if he is found guilty, no measure can save him from long or lifelong jail time in Thailnad. Carpenter, for organizing prostitution, can face imprisonment for seven to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to THB40,000 (US$1,200). Whereas , the drug charges can fetch him imprisonment for another 5 years or for a lifetime, with a fine of up to THB500,000 (US$15,200).
