Pattaya City will invest another five million baht on surveyor costs as they attempt to evaluate and set in motion the revival of the ill-fated Bali Hai Marina project.
The planned 700 million plus baht marina venture began in 2008 and was due to be completed in 2013, using a “phased” building program but a variety of issues sealed its fate, mainly due to funding problems. This resulted in the enterprise being neglected by both the contractor and the authorities, leaving the city with nothing more than an eyesore.
Now, in what could be a final attempt at saving the planned marina, Mayor Anan Charoenchasri has commissioned a survey to determine if the project can be saved and at what cost.
It is unlikely that the contractor can be sued as lawsuits must be filed within two years of completion of work.
Whatever the outcome of the survey, the area must be cleaned up, even if it means abandoning the project and clearing away the debris.
