Beware of the police lurking in the bushes with radar guns because that’s exactly what officers across Najomtien have been up to in an effort to reduce deaths on the roads following a report that so far 100 people have lost their lives in the Sattahip sub-district in 2017.
Both Pol Maj. Somporn Sumart and Pol. Capt Chatchai Sripalang were pictured setting up a speed tramp from the cover of bushes close to the Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens off of Sukhumvit Road using radar detection equipment to catch speeding motorists.
It was reported that over the course of one hour they nabbed 37 speeding motorists and a large number of motorcyclists not wearing helmets or not possessing licenses.
Somporn said that the stretch of road was notorious for fatal accidents having claimed the lives of over 200 people over the last couple of years with the most recent tragedy occurring on November 18 when a baht bus driver slammed into a tree killing five passengers on board.
