Top level monks and former local politicians and council members were in attendance at a special ceremony at the Nong Ket Yai Temple to commemorate the opening of their new sanctuary which officially opened on March 8.
Former Culture Minister Sonthaya Kunplome was in attendance at the ribbon cutting accompanied by Pattaya’s former mayor and current members of the Chonburi provincial Council who all bore witness to the start of the temple’s annual festival which ran until March 15.
The festival began with a troop of top level monks including the abbot of the Chaimongkol Temple in Pattaya, Panyarattanakorn chanting and leading other religious rites before Somkid Nongyai was asked to light incense and candles, Somkid donated 5 million baht to build the sanctuary.
The temple holds a festival annually to help raise funds for the temple with money this year going towards the renovation of the monks dormitory’s and landscaping projects around the grounds of the temple.
