Several merit making ceremonies held over the early part of this month have helped to raise over 2 million baht for the Glory Hut Foundation a charity based here in Pattaya to help people affected by AIDS.

Outspoken AIDS activist and monk Alongkot Dikkapanyo accompanied by local officials handed over 2.1 million baht to the charity that was raised from three Buddhist alms-giving ceremonies so far this month.

Alongkot was also present at ceremonies at the Nongprue Health Park on December 1 and 2 to receive donations for the charity from the public.

Alongkot also known as Luang Phu Alongkot is the abbot at the Phra Baht Nam Phu Temple in Lopburi who have been caring for AIDS victims since 1992.

The Glory Hut made international headlines back in 2012 when local residents voted that the non-government charity relocate elsewhere taking their 35 HIV stricken patients with them.

Currently a new facility is being constructed in Nongmaikaen and is reportedly close to completion.
