Police and emergency services were called to the busy intersection that joins Soi Wat Tam with the motorway in South Pattaya at 8:30 am on July 7th after reports of a road traffic collision.
There were three vehicles involved in the accident a motorcycle driven by a 39-year-old female who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, a pickup driven by a 30-year-old Thai male and a minivan whose driver is unknown to the police at this time as it fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Police questioned the pickup driver who said he had been out with friends the night before and was on his way home. He claimed to have been following the motorbike when she pulled out onto the motorway and was hit by a speeding minivan.
Police failed to believe the drivers account as they could smell alcohol on his breath and carried out a roadside breath test and the drivers reading was 140 which is well over the legal limit.
Interviews of other witness were contradictory to the driver’s account of the accident.
Accounts of the other witnesses were that the pickup hit the motorbike from behind sending the victims bike out into the path of the minivan which subsequently hit and killed the woman.
Police arrested the driver of the pickup for drink driving and are currently trying to track down the driver of the minivan which fled the scene.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
