Pattaya tourist boats continues using the beachfront area to pick and drop tourists, violating government orders to restart using the Chon Buri’s Southern Pattaya Pier from Tuesday onwards.
The National Council for Peace and Order, Pattaya City and the committee for Southern Pattaya Pier Regulating started a Pier restoration work (Laem Balihai) in November and had thus issued an order giving temporary license to the tour buses and boats to use the beachfront to pick up and drop off tourist.
Effective from Tuesday, the government ordered the business operators to resume using the Laem Balihai to pick-up and drop off about 20,000 tourists per day for water activities and the journey to Koh Lan. About 50 soldiers and police were posted in the pier to assist the tour buses and boats.
While few operators used the pier as per the order, most of them continued using the beachfront area. Approximately about 300 meters near the Hard Rock Twin Palms Hotel, around 50 tour boats were anchored and busses dropped off visiting tourists.
Though the Pattaya businesses operators did not wish to violate the official orders but were left with no options as they were not given sufficient time and notice to revamp their schedules, as reported by the NPE Tour executive Natthapong Manasom, 55.
Within a day’s notice from the Pattaya Marine Department branch office, the revamping had to take place, which wasn’t possible as tour packages had been sold months ago. Tourist operators could not change the set schedules thus had to adhere to the pre-scheduled timetable- using the beachfront.
They also reported that once the pier is completely ready for use, the operators would return to the Pier.
