It was a momentarily chaotic seen on the usually peaceful Pattaya beach on Saturday (October 21) after tourists fled in terror after mistaking a monitor lizard for a crocodile after it decided to go for a swim in the Pattaya surf.
The incident which happened just after 12:30 sent panicked tourists running from the waters.
Lifeguards were on hand to calm the situation down and carefully apprehend the want-to- be crocodile allowing holiday makers to pose for pictures with the lizard before relocating it back into the wild.
Pattaya Marine Corps weighed and measured the monitor lizard which was reported to be about 10kg and roughly one and a half meters long.
One witness Warapol Wattana said that there was a rush of people running from the beach after mistaking the lizard for a crocodile before the lifeguards captured it and people posed for pictures with it.
