Missing Pattaya Expat Discovered In UK Prison

A British man, who disappeared from Pattaya has been found safe and well – in a prison in the UK.

John Stageman, 74, had many friends in Pattaya worried about him following his disappearance. They wondered if he had been involved in an accident or even died, when he went missing over a year ago.

However they were shocked to discover that Stageman was actually serving time in the UK for child abuse.

His restaurant “Starlight” located in the east of the city closed without warning, and the man simply vanished, giving friends cause for concern.

So imagine their surprise when they discovered he was serving an 18 year sentence for rape, following a 2016 conviction in the UK courts.

The paedophile was sent down for raping a seven-year-old girl, which happened back in the 1980s. Stageman, had been running a guest house at the time in Kent.

Years later he raped the girl again. She fell pregnant and didn’t know who the father was, Stageman or her husband. She suffered a miscarriage possibly due to the stress she was under.

The woman finally brought charges against her violator in 2005 but he was deemed unfit to stand trial at the time. When he later discovered proceedings were being brought against him in 2013, he fled to Thailand.

He lived in Pattaya for three years, where it is believed he still owns a number of properties.

Immigration caught up with the beast when they discovered he had overstayed his visa. Further checks revealed he was wanted by UK police and was subsequently handed over to British authorities.

Stageman is not eligible for parole until he is 86 years old.
