Navy Proposing Closing Bali Hai Pier During Fleet Show

Navy officials have proposed closing Bali Hai Pier each morning throughout November’s International Fleet Show, much to the disproval of people that use transportation services to Koh larn and local scuba diving companies.

They have proposed closing the South Pattaya jetty from 6 a.m. through to 12 p.m. whilst some 40 nations participate in the fleet show which takes place from November 13-22.

They also put forward the idea of closing all roads leading to the pier past three in the afternoon.

No decisions were made at the meeting which was between officers from the Navy, police, army and Marine department officials other than that more meeting would need to be held to further discuss the proposals.

If the proposals were to go ahead it would prove very financially damaging to those businesses that operate out of the pier such as the Koh Larn ferry and chartered fishing and tour boats to name but a few that have boats too big to bring to the beaches.

Also discusses under the banner of security for the events were topics of staffing the event, traffic, medical and fire services, marine rescue and CCTV monitoring of the event.

The added security concerns come as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha is expected to be in attendance at the fleet show along with senior military officials from 40 nations.
