Pattaya is set to be the first city in Thailand to permit gambling following an announcement by the City Goverment Officials this morning.
In a brief statement the offials said “In an effort to boost tourism and to bring Pattaya into direct competition with other major cities around the world, we have decided to build a new super casino in Walking Street.
“Work will commence in August 2017 and is expected to take around six months to complete.
“Roulette, Black Jack, Poker and slot machines have all been given the go-ahead to be played in the new casino but what is really exciting us, is the fact that no other city in Thailand, will be granted a licence for at least ten years.” said the mayor.
Rumours have been rife for months about a casino coming to the city but no one was expecting it to happen so soon. It is unclear, which buildings would make way for the new casino but it is thought that construction will happen on the shore side of the street.
Is this the way forward for Pattaya. Is the “sin city” label finally going to be cleaned up by this new venture?
