Bang Lamung’s District Chief Naris Niramaiwong led Pattaya authorities on a raid at the construction site of the future Terminal 21 Department Store here in the city in search of illegal migrant workers after numerous complaints were made.
Chief Naris stated that the site had 19 construction contractors and over 1000 workers.
After a bit of sorting out officials discovered that 234 of the workers were migrants either from Cambodia or Myanmar.
He said although the majority of workers were able to produce the relevant documentation needed to prove they were working legally some were unable to produce any documents, authorities are now deciding whether or not to charge those without documents for violating the Working of Aliens Act and also the immigration act if the sites owner is also unable to provide documents for those workers.
