While some will be happy, those of you who are regular visitors to the beach for a relaxing afternoon on the beach chairs may not be so happy with the new rules that came into effect on June 21.

Mayor Anan Charoenchasri announced a new policy that removes chairs and umbrellas from both Pattaya and Jomtien beaches on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Vendors are being instructed to remove all their property on Tuesday nights and told not to return until Friday mornings.

The new policy has been put in place for the rest of June and the whole of July so beaches surface can be levelled and restored ready for each weekend.

Along with the imposed two-day ban on chairs officials have decided all vendors will have to take part in a draw once a year to determine there spot on each respective beach.

Pattaya Beach Goes Chair Free

The raffle for spots on Pattaya beach will take place on the 2nd of August and Jomtien beach will raffle of spots on the 9th of August.

They hope that by raffling of the spots it will end the monopoly some vendors had imposed on the industry over recent years.

What effect will imposing a force two days off work have on the livelihoods of those operating the beach chairs, time will only tell?

  1. WHY IS IT THAT THE POWERS THAT BE IN PATTAYA ARE HELL BENT ON DESTROYING TOURISM IT HAS NOW BECOME VERY EXPENSIVE TO FLY TO THAILAND WHY ARE THEY SO FIXED IN DESTROYING THE OWN TOURIST TRADE

    • its not only the government that are destroying in thailand i went to jomtien beach last year and there was litter everywere this is the locals at night eating and getting drunk and throwing all the litter on the floor and it spreads on the beach i saw ferlangs going in the sea and bringing out bags off rubbish i was digusted that a beautiful beach is not looked after why dont they moniter the beaches and fine these people it also affects tourism

  2. Why can’t they have sunloungers on the beach like some of the other resorts. I used to love days on the beach but since they changed the rules and made the pitches smaller I don’t go on anymore. The chairs are so close together and the umbrellas that you can’t get them down if you want to get some sun. You feel packed in like sardines. We have been coming to Pattaya for twenty five years and it has spoilt it for us. A lot of our friends feel the same as we do. I feel sorry for the beach vendures as it seems to have had an impact on there living. We can’t lay on the beach as my husband has knee problems. He would not be able to get up from the beach. This probably applies to many other people too so they are not thinking of people as a whole.

  3. WHO EVER THOUGHT UP THIS NEW RULE MUST BE AN IDIOT WHY DONT THEY DO A SURVEY WITH THE TOURISTS TO SEE WHO WANTS CHAIRS AND UMBRELLAS MOST PEOPLE WANT A CHAIT AND SHADE FROM THE SUN . GET A GRIP TOURIST BOARD
