Officials here in Pattaya are reportedly considering charging people to visit the island of Koh Larn which is located 11 kilometers off of Pattaya’s shore.
The island is a popular tourist destination for both Thai and foreign tourists with hundreds flocking to its beaches daily.
Pattaya City councillor Chotuk Chotkumchon proposed issuing a fee to tourists visiting the island at the first City Council Meeting of 2018 stating boats are already charged a fee to visit the island however tourists are not.
By charging individuals it will help raise money for rubbish collection and environmental protection, money which will not have to come out of the city’s budget, money raised from fee’s can also be used to develop the island’s infrastructure.
Though no set date or amount as to how much people will be charged was established at the meeting it’s probably safe to assume that day trips to the island in the near future are set to become more expensive.
