According to reports an expat here in Pattaya has been threatened with legal action after they posted a negative restaurant review in a Facebook group.
The expat who was not named in the report allegedly posted the review in the popular group the Breakfast Club Pattaya.
The group currently has over 40,000 members who all share pictures and reviews of eating establishments all across the resort city.
It came to light on Sunday (March 25) that according to one of the groups administrators that a long time member and frequent contributor to the group has been “harassed and threatened with legal action” by a restaurant owner here in the city after the poster left a negative review of their food in the group.
Again the report did not name the restaurant or the owner involved.
The admin who spoke to reporters said this was the first time in four years a group member has faced such a backlash and said “for us as the admin team we believe this crosses a line.”
They said bullying their members is not acceptable and restaurants should accept that all restaurants get a bad review from time to time.
Currently under Thai law defamation is a criminal offence and can be punished by up to 2 years in prison.
