The Department of Highways announced yesterday (September 27) that they will be implementing a closed system for toll collection on the Chonburi to Pattaya motorway.
The announcement was made by Director-General Thanin Somboon who said that they intend to have the tolls in place and operational in early 2018 which would make the entire Bangkok to Pattaya motorway a closed system meaning anyone journeying along the road from any point would have to pay a toll.
The system will come into effect along with the launch of the Intelligence Transport System (ITS) which is intended to help manage traffic and improve safety for all motorists on the motorway.
He said that the system on the Chonburi to Pattaya stretch of the motorway is now 90 percent complete with work having started back in 2016.
Once the tolls come into effect the Chonburi to Pattaya motorway will have five toll collection stations, motorists who do not wish to pay tolls can use roads that run next to the motorway.
