Security is being stepped up here in Pattaya ahead of a busy weekend where an increased number of people are expected to descend upon the city to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensarn said that the city is bracing for an influx of visitors from the 16 to the 18 of February with some arriving as early as Valentine’s Day.
In an effort to ensure the public’s safety increased patrols will be carried out and support vehicles will be stationed in busy areas of the city.
Officials have said that they expect nearly all hotels to be fully booked so have ordered increased patrols of tourist areas of the city with volunteers aiding officers in maintaining order and safety.
Piyapong said additional officers will also be dispatched to the island of Koh Larn for security reasons.
Officers will be stationed at the pier and inspect boats departing and arriving to make sure they are up to standard as increased numbers of tourists are expected to travel to the island to celebrate Chinese New Year this weekend.
