The widely criticised Pattaya tunnel has been scheduled to open later this month on August 25th
A press conference was held yesterday (August 2) announcing that the project which cost 840 million baht was now complete. Though local authorities stated that they have still not found “experts” to run the tunnel they planned to open it anyway.
Spokesman for the project Phinit Maneerat said at the press conference that the Department of Rural Roads has given the ok to Pattaya mayor Anan Charoenchasri to open the tunnel.
The tunnel was expected to open in May but the date was pushed back stating they needed to find experts to run the tunnels systems. Authorities have decided that the builders who constructed the tunnel will run the systems in the short term until a permanent solution can be found.
The Tunnel project was started in 2014 and many Pattaya residents will be glad when it opens as it is expected to help with traffic congestion in the city.
