Officials in Pattaya announced that security across the city would be being increased over the festive period to insure everyone has a happy New Year.
Pol. Maj. Jirawat Sukontasap the man in charge of city hall’s municipal police led a meeting with members of the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association in attendance on December 13 to notify those present that checkpoints will be put in place across Pattaya to look for weapons, drugs and carry out on the spot breath tests to root out drink drivers.
Information points will also be established in tourist heavy areas such as Walking Street and Beach Road where tourists can report problems or ask for information.
The Marine Department’s sea rescue division will reportedly be working around the clock over the festive period and people can report emergencies by calling 199.
The deputy chief of the crime suppression division, Cap. Pallop Ringrod told members that extra patrols will be held in “high-risk” areas across Pattaya and officers would be getting strict on those who test positive for drink driving.
Officers will also give tourists advice whilst out on patrol such as not flaunting jewellery and to be mindful of their possessions at all times.
