It has been announced that as a result of a large fire that broke out on Walking Street due to an electrical transformer explosion members of the Provincial Electrical Authority will be stationed on Walking Street at weekends for the foreseeable future to monitor power usage.
The fire which was widely covered by the media was reported to have injured two people as well as destroying two bars and numerous parked vehicles.
The head of the Provisional Electrical Authority Chartchai Pumrin along with other local officials toured the site of the fire on March 11 and spoke with owners of bars affected by the blaze.
The head of the PEA office here in Pattaya Niruth Charoenchop said that the PEA takes full responsibility for the fire as the fire was caused by a brand new transformer that exploded having only been in place for 24-hours, the fire broke out at around 11pm sending people running for their lives and left one foreign tourist in hospital with minor burns and a Thai woman admitted for smoke inhalation.

The incident was remarked as being “strange” by Niruth who said he and other officials toured the site to try and work out if the new transformer exploded as a result of poor installation or a manufactures defect.
He told those affected by the fire to please file an official complaint with Pattaya police and give a detailed list of everything that the fire damaged as the first step on the road to claiming compensation.
This latest explosion is now the fourth transformer in the Walking Street area to blow in recent years, as a result PEA workers will be posted there on weekends which is the streets busiest period to monitor power levels and keep an eye on the transformers to prevent future fires from occurring.
