The Metropolitan Police commissioner has instructed all 88 police stations in the capital to firmly enforce the hours that lorries and trucks are allowed into the city.
Commissioner Pol Lt-General Charnthep Selavej has issued the order regarding the time the vehicles are permitted into the city in an effort to prevent traffic congestion in the city from getting worse.
The Metropolitan Police said that if trucks continue to enter the city during prohibited hours they might put plans in place to ban trucks on certain routes altogether.
Trucks with over 10 wheels are banned from entering the centre of the capital between the hours of 6am to 10am and from 3pm to 9pm.
Trucks with six wheels are banned from the inner Bangkok from 6am to 9am and from 4pm to 8pm.
For those caught violating the order they will be subject to a fine of 1,000 baht.
