Officers in Pattaya raided several different locations across the city with the goal of catching illegal immigrants.
The raids netted 18 people both male and female from several different countries including people from Uganda, Iran, Britain, Nigeria, India and the Ivory Coast.
Police hit 12 different locations which included rented rooms, houses and guest houses which were all under surveillance having received reports from locals.
Of the 18 people arrested nine were Nigerian.
The acting deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police said that the raids particularly targeted criminals and visa over-stayers as they were the most likely to turn to drug, gambling or prostitution trades as a means of funding themselves whilst here in Thailand.
He said that the operation had been running for several months and will continue to do so in the future.
The police issued a statement saying that theses raids were merely the start, saying that further raids were already being planned.
