It seems some people will go to extreme lengths to get to Pattaya after immigration police announced yesterday that they had apprehended a Russian national.
Who made a dash for Thailand across the Friendship Bridge linking Thailand and Cambodia.
It didn’t take long for officers from the Sa Kaew immigration to apprehend the man identified as Kiril Nettrusov.
Mr Nettrusov once in custody told officers that he had travelled to Cambodia on December 8 but had all of his possessions and money, including his passport stolen.
Immigration officers contacted Cambodian officials who claimed they had instructed the man to contact the Russian embassy in Cambodia.
It appears he decided to ignore their advice and make a break for Thailand in an effort to meet up with his friend in Pattaya, according to the Russian man.
Immigration police found an expired passport amongst his belongings.
Officers have detained Mr Nettrusov over fears he might be wanted on international warrants while they contact the relevant agencies to check this.
