The harbour authority announced that tests are currently being carried out on the proposed Sattahip to Koh Chang ferry
The ferry is intended to run from Juk Samet port to Bang Bao, a popular holiday island.
The new service is expected to start in either September or October ready for the tourism high season.
The tests now underway are focusing on safety, communications equipment, water depths and what facilities at the port will need upgrading.
So far the number of trips per day the ferry will make and its cost has not been announced.
Design work for the Pak Nam Pranburi port is expected to be completed within the next year which will allow both passengers and vehicles to be transported.
Once the work is complete they expect services to run between Attahip and Pranburi as well as Sattahip and Khao Takiap.
