Local authorities here in Pattaya are continuing efforts to improve anti-flooding measure across the city this time turning their attention to Soi Chaiyapornwitee 22.
Construction crews began work on January 29 to replace storm drains and pipes all along the Soi which has previously been prone to flooding.
Work has begun to rip out the old piping before brand new drainage pipes and drains which will be equipped with filters to catch rubbish and other debris will then be installed.
The Soi was badly flooded on January 26 when a heavy unseasonal downpour resulted in officials having to dispatch the sub-districts Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department personnel to use large water pumps to remove water from the soi, blocked drains were later blamed for the flooding.
Resident voiced complaints that the soi’s drainage system was no longer coping and even a little rain had become an issue.
