The saga that is the Pattaya tunnel project looks set to have another twist in the tale as local media reported that the tunnels spokesman has been gagged
Phinit Maneerat held a press conference last week to announce that the tunnel will finally be open on August 25th, it seems that the three week deadline might now not be the case.
Phinit cancelled a press briefing that was to happed at the end of last week and said that he was to say nothing more to the media about the tunnels opening and was not giving any more interviews.
Pattaya news reported that Department of Rural Roads had given the ok for the tunnel to open but apparently this was not correct.
They did however state that no such undertaking had been received and as far as they are concerned the tunnel project remains in limbo.
The hold up before was being accredited to a lack of “specialists” to operate the tunnels systems but at an earlier press conference they said although they had yet to find staff to fill this role the tunnel would open anyway.
Reporters are making attempts to try and interview both Phinit as well as other tunnel executives in an attempt to clarify the situation.
So if you had made special plans to take a trip through the new tunnel on August 25th you might have to wait a little longer.
