Thai Airways International will cancel two flights and bring forward the departure time of four other flights on the Chiang Mai route during the Loy Krathong festival later this week.
Flt Lt Prathana Pattanasiri, vice president in charge of aviation safety, announced on Monday the airline will cancel flights TG120 and TG121 this Thursday and Friday, and also on New Years Eve.
TG120 normally leaves Suvarnabhumi for Chiang Mai at 6.40pm and the return flight, TG121, leaves at 8.50pm.
The carrier will also reschedule TG103 to leave Chiang Mai airport at 9.55am instead of the regular departure time of 10.25am, TG105 from 10.40am to 12.05pm, and TG117 from 7.20pm to 5.50pm, he said. Another flight bound for Chiang Mai, TG116, will see the departure time move forward from 5.10pm to 3.40pm.
The schedule change is for safety reasons as many northern provinces float lanterns into the sky during the Loy Krathong festival and New Year celebrations.
Loy Krathong day is Thursday. The celebration lasts more than one day in the North.
