Beach chair vendors have complained about a blocked off area on Pattaya Beach becoming a haven for the homeless and petty thieves.
The problem began when a sheet-metal fence was erected near the Dusit Thani Hotel. Vendors claim homeless people now live there and thieves are using the area as a base to steal swimmers belongings.
The vendors want the fenced removed because it is affecting their business and is not good for tourism.
Initially, the fence was put in place by contractors who were extending the beach but work came to a halt in December, through a lack of sand, with the site lying dormant since.
Homelessness is a major problem in Pattaya, something which the authorities need to deal with.
Petty theft is easily dealt with by deploying police to observe and arrest offenders.
