The final round of the world’s longest-running international beauty pageant, Miss World 2019, will be hosted in Pattaya, the event’s first-ever time in Thailand.
The Miss World Organisation (MWO) confirmed the location of the 69th Miss World finale on Saturday, adding that the official press conference, which will detail the exact date and location, will be held in Bangkok on Monday, Feb. 18.
“I am delighted we are going to host the 2019 Miss World Final in Thailand. I know we are going to have the most amazing journey, as the ‘Land of Smiles’ is truly one of the most remarkable and welcoming countries in the world,” MWO Chairman and CEO Julia Morley said on the pageant’s official Facebook page.
While this will be Thailand’s first time playing host to Miss World, we’re no stranger to the big pageant stage, having just recently hosted the Miss Universe 2018 finale (a very dramatic one at that) in Bangkok on Dec 17.
Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan, Miss Thailand World 2018 and Miss World Runner-Up 2018, will be one of the “Continental Queens” who will be attending the competition.
Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome, meanwhile, said that the competition is not in part the city’s operation plan and therefore no city budget will be used to support the competition.
While they can provide some support for the organization, he believes the Ministry of Tourism and sports should be the main coordinator of the event, reported Khaosod.
