A meeting barred to reporters was held in Pattaya yesterday to discuss the issue of everyone’s favourite street in the popular seaside resort city, Walking Street.
Attendees at the meeting were told that Walking street was a pleasant beach way back in 1952 a little different to how it looks today after an aerial photos shows over 100 buildings stretching out over the water.
The meeting was called by Pattaya’s Mayor Anan Charoensri and took place at Pattaya City Hall yesterday to investigate developments that have happened on the famous street since the 1950’s.
After the meeting Mayor Anan said the issue surrounding Walking Street is not a straight forward matter some businesses there have legal land deeds others do not.
Other issues discussed as well as the streets encroachment were the state of buildings on the street and how they were constructed to begin with.
Mayor Anan said that a total of 101 properties have now encroached over the sea and an area that was once a beach back in the 1950’s.
The mayor noted that the encroachment issue has been dragging on now for nearly 20 years and he now wants something more to be done to resolve the issue including environmental considerations.
What do you think, would you like to see building removed and the street turned back into a beach or leave things how they are?
