It has been announced that nearly 130 million passengers have passed through Thailand’s six main airports during the last fiscal year (October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017.)
According to the Airports of Thailand (AoT) president Nitinai Sirisamathakarn a total of 129.2 million travellers passed through the six airports throughout that period marking a 7.73 percent increase on the year before.
The six airports in question were Suvarnabhumi, Dom Mueang, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket.
During the last fiscal year a total of 823,574 flights were hosted by the six airports which were made up of 415,338 international flights and 408,236 domestic flights.
It was stated that the majority of travellers coming in from outside of the kingdom came from in order China, South Korea Japan and India.
The five most used airlines during the period were in order Air Asia, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, NokAir and Bangkok Airways.
There have been several reports thought the year of complaints from passengers facing long waiting times at immigration, especially at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, the Thai government has since promised to put plans in place to reduce waiting times.
