Local authorities and residents in the Mueang district of Phayao have set aside 2,500 rai of land which they want to be the site of a new international airport.
The mayor of Tabon Maeka, Dr Praphan Thianwiharn said that building an international airport on the proposed land could also be used by people in Chiang Rai, Nan and Phrae.
The 2,500 rai plot of land which has been put together by local authorities and private citizens and firms was unveiled to reporters this morning by Praphan.
Praphan said that the province was ideal for an airport as there are no obstructions to prevent aircraft from taking off and landing.
He said that both the governor and investors from the private sector make a coordinated effort to petition the government to build an international airport on the site.
