The Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said today that they are expecting about 250,000 Thai citizens to attend the Royal Cremation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 26.
He said if the site at Sanam Luang becomes too crowded mourners would be asked to place funeral flowers at one of the many replica crematoriums being built around the city.
He noted that roughly 70,000 state officials, employees and volunteers would provide security and crowd management for the service.
A joint coordination centre with the Defence Ministry is to be established on October 1 to plan security measures.
Signs will also be put in place to advise the public which roads to use and avoid during the ceremony.
