Officers from the Royal Thai Navy Third Naval Area Command were mobilised after a report came in that a tourist was drowning off of Similan Island National Park at 2pm on Christmas Eve (December 24.)
When officers arrived they discovered that a 60-year-old British national had already been dragged from the water and was unconscious on the beach.
Not only was the man unconscious but he was not breathing so officers attempted CPR while a speedboat was used to transfer the man to Tab Lamu Pier where an ambulance was standing by to take him to hospital.
It was at 5:55pm when doctors pronounced the man dead and his body was then transferred to Bangkok Hospital in Phuket.
The British man’s identity has not been made public as yet until it has been confirmed that his family has been notified, there was no mention in the report of any red flags flying in the area at the time of the incident.
