Authorities announced on Friday morning that they had arrested an abbot at a temple that had been treating drug addicts.
After he was caught selling patients traditional medicine which turned out to be laced with methamphetamine.
Following a tip-off from ex-patients an undercover officer was sent into the Khao Sripermsawang temple in Nakom Nayok province, posing as a drug addict in need of treatment.
The undercover officer was provided with small vials of medicine for 100 baht each and charged 500 baht to start his rehabilitation program.
Sitthisak Watjanarat, a senior officer of the Narcotics Control Board said that they tested the traditional medicine and found it to be laced with Methamphetamine.
Officers arrested the temple’s abbot Opas Thammachot, 61, and his accomplice on Thursday, both claim to be baffled how the drugs came to be in the medicine.
Both have been charged for dealing in a Class 1 drug.
