Plans are being put in place for Universities here in Thailand to use artificial intelligence and other forms of advanced technology to turn urban centres in Nonthaburi, Yala, Udon Thani, Phuket, Roi Et, Lamphun and Hat Yai into “smart cities.”
Having signed a cooperative pact both King Prajadhipok’s Institute and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang will work together to transform the seven locations in an effort for them to better serve the people of Thailand.
Speaking about the project Prof Wutthisarn Tanchai said the first step will be to assess each of the locations to determine what technology is required to meet each community’s needs.
He noted that artificial intelligence would be used to improve administrative efficiency.
Dr Suchatchawee Suwansawat of the council of university presidents said that King Prajadhipok’s Institute would deal with each of the locations while KMITL would supply the necessary technology needed in each location.
Plans to use online cameras and robots to monitor traffic, weather and other situations have been put forward for consideration.
