All Army chiefs will be required to take an English competency test as well as a physical fitness test next month.
Following an announcement from Army chief Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart on Tuesday an order will be issued that all battalion chiefs will be tested for physical fitness next month at the Royal Thai Army Club and would also have to take an English exam as well.
He also said that any future recruitment test for civil servants would now also include a compulsory English test.
The new English test requirement is believed to be a result of the Prime Ministers speech on the 12 th Economic and Social Development Plan for Thailand’s future.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o- cha also stressed the importance of official documentation be written in both Thai and English.
The prime minister said “It will show the development and be well-informed.”
