Troops in Phuket were called to Patong, Kata and Karon this week in an increasing effort to get jet-ski operators to abide by the beach rules.
At present the rule is that jet-ski workers cannot have any equipment on the sands during the day as they want the beach to be left clear for the public and tourists to use.
Col Santi Sakuntanark, the highest ranking officer in Phuket received orders to dispatch troops to the shores in an effort to stop the beach being used in a manner that doesn’t coincide with the law.
Troops found four instances of workers with their jet-ski equipment on the sand and urged local police to fine them and instruct them on how their practices should be carried out.
The actions follow a written warning from the Phuket Marine Office issued on June 23 and should operators fail to fall in line further correspondence will be sent to Phuket Provisional Office who will then decide whether to ban jet-skis from the beach all together.
