Thailand’s Minister for Tourism Weerasak Kowsurat, got dressed up in a historic costume in Bangkok yesterday as he was surrounded by men in black and assault rifles. The picture of Mr Kowsurat was taken at Bangkok’s Asiatique Waterfront.
The move follows plans to push for a traditional Songkran, after the authorities requested that Thai people wore classic Thai clothing during the festivities earlier this week.
The rifles however are to ensure that those enjoying the celebrations, feel safe and secure in the nation’s cities in what was billed as “Thai Style Sensible Songkran – Using Water Wisely And Being Safe”.
Present at the event were National Police Chief General Jakthip Chaijinda and famous crime buster Surachet “Big Joke” Hakpal.
Songkran of course is the time of year when the nation celebrates its New Year with its famous water festivals, offering spectacular sights around the streets of the city.
Many expats hate Songkran but for the tourist, it is a must attend occasion.
