Bangkok starts to go wire free as utilities moved underground

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority started work today to get rid of electricity poles along Bangkok’s Pradiphat Road as part of the “smart metro” project

Which will see electrical and communications cables relocated below the ground.

The first phase of the new project will cover an eight-kilometre stretch that will run from Lat Phrao to the victory monument.

As part of the initiative the old concrete poles that are being removed will be donated to the country’s coastal erosion prevention project.
