The head of Thailand’s Customs Department was on hand yesterday to welcome the UK’s secretary of state and foreign and commonwealth affairs Boris Johnson.
Director-general Kulit Sombatsiri greeted Johnson and his party who were visiting Thailand to round out a three-country tour of the region.
The pair went on to discuss a variety of topic with the suppression of illicit trade in wildlife at the top of the list expanding on the sanctions agreed under the 2014 “London Declaration on the Illegal Wildlife Trade.”
Kulit stated “Thailand’s Customs Department focuses on and maintains strict control policies over prohibited and restricted goods.”
He noted that wildlife trafficking that takes place in Thailand is often carried out by various syndicates who use Thailand as a transit route to distribute illicit trade to other counties.
