According to reports made by the UK media the British Foreign Office has sold their embassy building here in Bangkok for £420 million (18.7 billion baht.)
The British Foreign Office apparently plans to use the money from the sale to refurbish 30 to 40 projects across the globe including re-wiring their Paris embassy and modernising their Washington Embassy.
According to reports the money raised from the buildings sale is equivalent to one-third of the Foreign Office’s annual budget which is £1.2 billion.
The British Embassy staff here in Bangkok will now move their operations to the AIA Sathorn Tower located in Bangkok’s Business district.
The original embassy building was built back in 1922 on 3.5 hectares of land on the outskirts of Bangkok, land which is now considered prime real estate.
